Sketchy Mutts and Underdogs is a 501c3 non-profit, all-volunteer organization, located in the Indianapolis metro area.  We are dedicated to saving the lives of dogs who are at high risk of euthanasia in area shelters, due to behavioral issues, medical conditions, or overcrowding.  We are primarily a foster-based organization, although we have the ability to temporarily house dogs in our facility until foster or forever homes can be found.

The Adoption Process

Sketchy Mutts and Underdogs has dogs for adoption in Indianapolis and surrounding areas. Please take a look at our dogs on Petfinder. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please complete an online adoption application. After we receive your application we will reach out to you to schedule a phone call.

The next step in the adoption process is for us to bring the dog to your home to meet all family members and introduce the dog to your existing pets. It is important for everyone living in your home to be present for this visit. Before finalizing any adoption, we prefer for the dog to do a one week “trial adoption” in your home. What this means is that the dog lives with you day in, day out, for a week or until everyone is comfortable that he/she will be a good fit for your everyday life. We feel this is the best way for everyone involved to be confident that welcoming the dog into your home is a good, life-long decision. Please know that it is ultimately up to the resident dog(s) as to whether the adoption moves forward.

All dogs will be current on vaccinations and micro-chipped prior to entering your home. In the case of puppies, we may allow a trial adoption to occur prior to spay/neuter but we cannot finalize an adoption until after the procedure is done. If at any  point during the trial adoption you or we decide that the dog is not a good fit for your home, the dog will come back to us. If the dog is in a foster home he/she will go back into the same foster home. We always leave the dog’s foster home open until his/her adoption is final.

Adoption Fees

Thanks to generous donations from our community, we are able to offer a flat adoption fee, regardless of what we spend on medical treatment or behavioral rehabilitation before a dog is ready for adoption.
